School Kids at Cabrini Fest Find Physics a Scream!
Brentwood/Islip – (MyLITV) The journalists at MyLITV have received FOLIO Awards from the Fair Media Council, a reward for their efforts as “teacher’s television helpers” in bringing physics lessons to life at the Mother Cabrini Festival fairgrounds in Brentwood.
The report “Physics for Fun,” featured Kim Magloire, scientist and president of SciTech. Magloire used the festival rides of Northport-based Newton Shows to demonstrate Isaac Newtonian principles of inertia, gravity, kinetic energy and potential energy to an eager group of students. Video journalists Jennifer Ross and Waldo Cabrera employed the colors, motion and music of bumper cars, pendulum rides, and spinning wheels to illustrate Magliore’s lessons, --and let the children’s faces illustrate how understanding the science of fun can help make the rides even more thrilling.
The Fair Media Council FOLIO awards were presented for works of journalism, judged by the public, to best serve the needs and wants of the Long Island community. The FOLIO event was, April 24, at the Crest Hollow Country Club, in Woodbury, New York.
My Long Island TV won four 2015 Folio Awards. Winning topics included Education, for their report with Magliorie and Newton Shows; in Housing, for a report about workforce housing within an elegant, new development in Patchogue; in Science, for a report about efforts to battle recurring cancers; and in Entertainment, for a conversation featuring history-making television producer Norman Lear.
This year My Long Island TV is also celebrating 5 years of service to our community.
